Artist Biography

Desiree is a biracial millennial writer from the South with deep familial roots in education and teaching. Her work is rooted in the belief that life’s small, everyday moments are portals into deeper creativity and self-understanding. She believes writing is a memory holder and she writes as a tangible way to lovingly hold past experiences and musings. Her writing invites the reader to slow down, witness fleeting sparks of insight, and reframe life’s change not as disruption, but as invitation. She aims to help others place themselves at the center of their own stories, honoring the quiet power of transformation one moment at a time. Desiree explores how change lives within the ordinary. Her creative process is a dialogue between curiosity and constraint: allowing inspiration to visit as it will.

Desiree’s writing journey began over 30 years ago when, at 9 years old, she wrote an article in her local newspaper on Marjory Stoneman Douglas, a feminist and conservationist, for Women’s History Month. Desiree is a blog writer for Jali Creatives, a full service marketing agency that serves female founders, and is a guest author for Hallmark Mahogany. She has published blogs for organizations like Girls on the Run and Postpartum Support International, and has been featured on the Let’s Talk About It! With Coach Anna podcast. Desiree hosts a bi-weekly local writing hour for Women of Color and is currently editing a community memoir called Free(k), that is a gathering of stories from Black Millennial(-ish) women who are finding their way to self love, healing, honor and liberation. You can find her everyday musings here

Desiree is a mom of four big personality kids, who are probably teaching her more than she is teaching them. Her background is in psychology, maternal health and health coaching, and her passion is understanding and empowering women’s relationships with themselves and others through life’s transitions and redirections. Desiree is a strategy leader and team facilitator who guides with authenticity, relatability and a little bit of humor. Her former projects include founding an intergenerational women's mentoring program, leading a mother and daughter book club, and creating curriculum for marriage retreats.

Desiree deeply values quality time with her kids and friends and her favorite things are writing, traveling, practicing yoga, gardening, hiking and feeling the sun on her skin. She would usually rather be drinking tea, wrapped in a blanket with her journal, wearing fuzzy socks, than pretty much anything else.
